Collaboration Process

If you’re unsure about how the Collaboration process will go, here’s a quick explanation of how it will likely go. This explanation would be in the form of Guidelines rather than a specific regimen that must be followed, there aren’t any rules for the creative process of writing music.

Getting in contact

We would start by talking through email, text, and video chat to get to know each other and understand what kind of music you want made. I would ask you if there’s a specific style or genre of song you would like to create or whether there’s a particular artist or song you were inspired by.

I would also contact you if I need your input, ask for your feedback, or if there’s something you want changed, and I would expect you to respond as soon as you can.

You can share your ideas with me, like audio recordings of you humming, singing, or playing guitar or piano with a melody that comes to mind.

The more I get to know you and the song you want made, the better.

Creating a MIDI Track

A MIDI is a Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It’s a grid chart that plays a digitally synthesized musical instrument, such as a Piano. I would create a track with all the chords, harmonies, melodies, bass lines, riffs, and lyrical toplines that would map out the entire song.

I will send you an MP3 of the MIDI track so you can decide whether to make any adjustments or continue creating sound, recording instruments, and writing lyrics.

Remember that the MIDI track could always change depending on the song's direction, but that would only be done to make it better suited to the final result.

I will also contact you to determine the ideal pitch for your voice so you can comfortably and effectively sing the song.

Lyric Writing

With the MIDI done, it’s time to write the lyrics. You’ll probably have your own lyrics or ideas for the narrative you want to contribute, but if you don’t, it’s completely fine; you can leave it all to me. But it would be greatly appreciated if you could share anything, especially if it’s for the song.

Production and Sound Design

I would transpose the MIDI track into synthesizers and use oscillators and noise filters to produce electronic sounds for musical composition. Let me know if you have any electronic artists or DJs who would inspire your music.

Instrumental Recording

Instrumental recording is similar to Production and sound design. You can ask me to record Piano, Bass, electric, or acoustic guitar and play a MIDI track that was made, but if you need a different instrument recorded, we’ll have to outsource and hire someone who plays that instrument.

You can do your own instrumental recordings if you want.

Vocal Recording

When the music is done, it's time for you to provide the vocals. I’ll create a rough recording and a backing track with and without a melodic topline for reference. This is for your reference, to give clear instructions for your vocal performance and walk you through it. I might also suggest vocal layering and harmonies, and I might also suggest ooos and ahhs to create melodic vocals.

You don’t have to be 100% perfect; just be clean and clear and give yourself time to practice beforehand to give your best performance.

Bear in mind that if I find your vocal rhythm or pitch off, your recording has too many plosives or S sounds, or there is a slight need for improvement, I might need you to re-record. This is not a dig at your vocal ability; I’m just trying to get the best results possible. I wouldn't be working with you if I thought you weren’t a great vocalist.

Mixing

When you’re finished recording vocals, you will send them back to me so I can mix and edit them to match the composition entirely and finish the song.

Time to promote

Now that your song is ready, it’s time to release it with distributors like Distrokid or CD Baby and promote yourself as an artist on social media. There are many ways to get your music out there.

These days, most experts suggest TikTok, and many prominent artists today have managed to blow up through the platform. And even if you’re in a country that has banned TikTok, you can still hire social media influencers from other countries to help promote your music.

It will probably be a little premature to say this, but since so many US Users are now using Rednote (which makes me so happy for many reasons), it’s one of the most highly regarded social media apps for brand building, it may not pay you for the number of views you get like Tiktok would but honestly who cares? It still opens your brand up to hundreds of millions of people, and music has managed to surpass language barriers before.

I’ll help you with marketing strategies since I also benefit from them as much as you do.

Always remember that since I’m taking payment in shared royalties instead of taking your money, I’ll have every intention to help you succeed as an artist because that’s the only way I can profit from collaborations. So I can guarantee that I'll do everything possible to help you. Even continue making music for you even if the last song we made together isn’t successful.

But not taking payment gives me the right to end the collaboration and any possibility for future projects If I find working with you to be an extremely unpleasant experience. So I expect everyone I work with to show the utmost respect through out the process.
